The inspiration for this design came from a love of origami: the art of paper folding. I’m always excited by the endless possibilities of a single sheet of paper. As satisfying as it is to create a new object from a flat sheet of paper, I’m equally fascinated by the unfolded paper that holds the trace of something it once was. For me, these folds represent the impermanence and transformative nature of all things.
In addition to looking at the shapes made from the intersecting lines of an unfolded peacock, I considered the way light effected colour on the newly textured surface. Both these elements informed the construction of the pattern, that was also deconstructed to develop the final design.
